KILIM TOURS
Kilim Tours is set up to help you learn more about kilims and how to make one yourself.
The Classic Kilim Tour lasts for 15 days. For the first 3 days you will stay in a village near Yahyali in central Anatolia . Some of Turkey 's finest kilims are still hand-woven in this area. During the tour you will stay with a village family so that you can observe the different processes involved in making a kilim for yourself. Amongst other things you will learn:
- how wool is hand-spun
- how wool is coloured using
- traditional vegetable dyes
- how to weave a kilim
For the last 12 days of the tour you will stay in Goreme in Cappadocia amid the fairy chimneys. You will stay in our restored cave house and have the opportunity to try your hand at weaving a kilim for yourself.
Express Kilim Tour lasts for 10 days and is a short version of Classic One.
ITINERARIES
Classic Kilim Tour
On this tour you will spend the first three days staying in a nomad village in Yahyali, near Kayseri. In the village house you wiii be able to see how the women weave their kilims and find out about the dying process and about the motifs they use.
At the same time you will have an opportunity to see their traditional lifestyle and ask questions about it. In the evenings you will join the family for traditional meals eaten together at a low table.
On Day Four you will leave the village and travel to Goreme, the pretty village at the heart of Cappadocia. People in Goreme have always lived a troglodyte lifestyle and you will be able to stay in a carefully restored cave house with all mod cons.
Here you will be able to try your hand at making your own kilim – with experts on hand to advise and help you. You will also learn how to make a range of basic Turkish dishes.
Express Kilim Tour
People with less time can still travel to Goreme and stay in the restored cave house. There they will learn how to weave a kilim and cook some basic Turkish dishes.
Included in the programme will be a visit to a nomadic village in Yahyali, near Kayseri, to watch village women working at their looms. Also included in the programme will be a day tour of the highlights of Cappadocia.
